Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Define several therapeutic outcomes of music for people dealing with cancer
- Demonstrate knowledge of several basic components of music that may affect a person’s physical, emotional and/or mental experience of cancer care
- Integrate newly acquired skills into a nursing care plan that can be accessibly integrated into daily nursing routines for various settings
- Reflect on the role of music in one’s own life, noticing subtle and overt ways in which music and sound impact daily life, mood, and well-being
- Consider creative ways to adapt the presented material for various care settings e.g. chemotherapy administration, or radiation treatment

Dr. SarahRose Black, PhD, RP, MTA, is an accredited music therapist and registered psychotherapist specializing in palliative care and psychosocial oncology at both the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and Kensington Hospice in Toronto, Ontario. She is a pianist, vocalist, violinist and music health educator, and has performed, taught and presented on her clinical work and research across Canada. SarahRose teaches courses on music and health care, and writes and publishes widely on the role of music in psychosocial oncology. SarahRose holds a Master of Arts in Music Education and a Master of Music Therapy, and a doctorate from the University of Toronto.
